Description

"On July 5, 1973, what has been called the single greatest boon to artificial intelligence programming was prematurely unveiled and turned against the modern world, courtesy of the Nation of Seatopia.

Due to the destruction unwittingly caused to the peaceful subterranean civilization by the underground “Coral Typhoon” nuclear test of 1973, a number of Seatopian spies were sent around the world to find the single most sophisticated piece of surface technology on Earth.

Interestingly, it was found in the hands of a freelance self-described “Tech Wiz” named Goro Ibuki, who had been commissioned by the UN to design a “mechanical domestic assistant” to benefit humanity. Due to a slip-up in finances, Goro suddenly found himself set up for life, and decided to reward the UN’s unintended generosity by going “a little above and beyond” as he himself put it.

The resulting “assistant” was a six-foot-tall android named “Jet Jaguar” (named by Goro’s younger brother Rokuro). Jet Jaguar held some incredibly sophisticated and advanced programming even by modern standards, and was capable of reacting to outside stimulus, moving about with surprising speed and grace, carrying immensely heavy loads, and even flying at great speed for a short time through a form of modified Mysterian anti-gravity systems in his feet.

When a pair of Seatopian agents kidnapped Goro and Rokuro (and held their best friend Hiroshi Jinkawa, who’d happened to drop in for a visit at the wrong time, at gunpoint), they hijacked Jet Jaguar’s systems and ordered the android to lead their guardian monster Megalon to Tokyo. Ultimately, Hiroshi managed to overcome his captor, and Goro escaped with Rokuro. Using an emergency back-up radio transmitter, Goro managed to regain control over Jet Jaguar. The android led Megalon away from Tokyo to a small field in the middle of nowhere before – independently of Goro’s control – soaring off to what remained of Monster Island, while Goro tried desperately to regain control of his creation.

Exactly how Jet Jaguar managed to recruit Godzilla to fight with him remains a subject of hot debate among various scientific institutions, but when Jet Jaguar flew back to Megalon’s location, the monster king was swimming along not far behind.

As soon as Jet Jaguar confronted Seatopia’s destroyer, it appeared that the brave android would be crushed in a heartbeat – until, in a movement that remains a subject of even more feverish debate, Jet Jaguar’s structure doubled, tripled, quadrupled in size, until Megalon suddenly found itself facing a 50-meter-high colossus. Even Goro claims to be unable to fully explain how the robot pulled it off, though he’s suggested it may be related to the experimental “self-reprogramming” module he’d installed in the robot just a few days before it was hijacked. At any rate, he’s sure that this is the cause of Jet Jaguar’s unnervingly sudden foray into independence.

Now equal in size to his foe, Jet Jaguar fought with a stunning resolution seldom seen in the likes of humanity. In his actions, it was deduced that the android was swifter, cleverer, and more precise than Megalon, and flew more swiftly, though he lacked the guardian monster’s strength, durability, burrowing abilities, and long-range weaponry. The battle could have gone either way, until, to the horror of the reporters who had arrived, the space cyborg Gigan dropped out of the afternoon sky to join the battle – on Megalon’s side. Now faced with a foe who could match his speed in the air, Jet Jaguar was completely outmatched. The android would have been torn to pieces, had Godzilla not arrived five minutes after Gigan. Now with a powerful new ally, Jet Jaguar rejoined the fight, and surprised everyone with his ability to fight alongside the single most destructive monster on Earth. At one point, he managed to airlift Godzilla over a ring of flames Megalon had set around them both, and though it’s doubtful the monster was ever in danger, the famous photograph taken of the moment by Hiroshi remains a trademark image of loyalty and friendship to many unscrupulous advertisers.

At any rate, Jet Jaguar and Godzilla, working together, managed to drive Gigan and Megalon away. After granting Godzilla a hearty handshake (which apparently confused the monster king to no end, though he refrained from incinerating the android on the spot), Jet Jaguar miraculously returned to his ordinary size. Hiroshi, Goro, and Rokuro rushed to greet him, but the android stood utterly motionless until Goro ordered him to return home with them through his backup transmitter.

Jet Jaguar still lives with Goro, and despite all his attempts, Goro has never been able to replicate Jet Jaguar’s independent intelligence. The android apparently remains totally under human control.

Goro has moved on to other things, though, and a modified version of Jet Jaguar’s artificial intelligence has since been programmed into the M-1 and M-2 models of Ibuki Industry’s domestic servant androids. If the sophistication of the M-11 model from 2204 AD seen during the “Futurian” incident in 1991 is any kind of barometer, it seems that this artificial intelligence has a bright future ahead of it…"

Reality Check: this is Jet Jaguar, an android from "Godzilla vs. Megalon". I do not own the rights, Toho does, etc etc...
