Description

"In the year 1964, a string of surprising and audacious diamond thefts all around the world sent economic shock waves throughout the market. Many solid steel safes and vaults had been burned through by some unknown chemical compound. A handful of diamond transport trucks had not only been found with holes burned through their sides, but the drivers had vanished, and the trucks themselves were found crumpled and smashed as far as a mile away from the nearest road – as though they had been picked up, and then dropped from a tremendous height. Interestingly, the diamond thefts coincided with a rash of coal thefts around the world as well…

While a small ring of diamond thieves were apparently responsible for a handful of the crimes (which threw police off the trail of the true malefactor for quite some time), the vast majority of the thefts had been committed by something entirely different – something strange and otherworldly. The sudden, unexplained destruction of an American television satellite the previous month had apparently been caused – according to the individuals who discovered the wreckage – by its collision with a gigantic extraterrestrial single-celled organism that had once resided in the vacuum of space. The organism – named “Dogora” after one of the scientists that had discovered it – was mutated and damaged by the collision, and forced down into Earth’s atmosphere. Floating silently through the upper reaches of our atmosphere, Dogora silently devoured sources of concentrated carbon for energy – explaining the coal and diamond thefts – and threatened to eventually siphon up all the world’s supplies of both. A JSDF missile strike only compounded the problem, as the organism simply divided into several smaller Dogoras, each hungry for more carbon. I was summoned to Hokkaido to examine a small sample of the creature’s tissue, and work with several Japanese researchers to find something that would compromise the monster’s integrity. Eventually, it was discovered by myself (and a contingent of other researchers) that the chemical compounds that made up bee and wasp venom were deadly to the things, as contact with the substance would swiftly dehydrate and solidify the alien substance Dogora was made of. A massive amount of artificial venom was created, and sprayed into the atmosphere around the Dogoras – and the resulting hail of rocks spelled the end of the monster.

Dogora “rocks”, as they are known, are now considered extremely valuable artifacts, though their sale and trade is strictly regulated by the UN, due to the potential of reviving the alien minerals. I myself have a small specimen in my trophy room, where it occupies a shelf directly between a single preserved G-Cell and a Battran wing scale.

Reality check: this is the titular monster from the 1964 film "Dogora the Space Monster". I do not own Dogora, all rights belong to Toho ltd., etc etc...

" I myself have a small specimen in my trophy room, where it occupies a shelf directly between a single preserved G-Cell and a Battran wing scale." Yes that isn't going to backfire whatsoever...
